Exercising After Your Rhinoplasty Procedure

San Francisco Plastic Surgeon for a Nose Job

Dr. Evan Ransom is a Double Board Certified surgeon specializing in facial plastic and reconstructive surgery. He is a specialist in cosmetic, reconstructive, and functional surgery of your nose and septum, and he performs nasal surgery on patients of all ages. If you’re considering a rhinoplasty procedure, you may have questions regarding the recovery process, and more specifically when you can return to your normal exercise routine.

Exercising after your rhinoplasty surgery needs to be entered into with great consideration. After your rhinoplasty you need to be very careful to avoid activities that could pose any risk of causing a contact-injury to your nose. You do not want to compromise the surgical procedure that was just performed. In addition, trying to do overly vigorous exercises too soon post-surgery can be detrimental to your body’s healing process.

If you work out too soon or too strenuously after your surgery you may possibly experience:

  • Bruising
  • Swelling
  • Buildup of fluid
  • Separation of your wound
  • Infection

After your rhinoplasty surgery you need to listen to two things:

  • Your Body
  • Your Doctor

If your body speaks to you through pain, listen to it! If you are in pain or discomfort, cease what you’re doing. You will be able to return to that activity when you’re fully recovered, but for now, you may need to take a break until your body is fully healed. As a general rule, you should ease back into your regular workout. Take your time returning to your pre-procedure exercise activity.

Dr. Ransom will offer you specific activities you can and cannot perform during your recovery. He will suggest a time frame of when you can return to your regular routine as well. Listen to his recommendations and follow them for optimal results that will not be compromised by premature workouts.
